About Me

I work in IT and use UniFi stuff. Who I am otherwise is unimportant, other than to say I don't work for Ubiquiti.

About This Site

This is a project that started as I listened to Marco, John, and Casey fumble through trying to recommend UniFi hardware in ATP.fm episodes 637 + 638. I love the show and these guys but there's too many factors to make a "simple" recommendation. Hence, now, there's a website. This is really intended to be a quick, simple answer to "what kind of stuff should I be buying?" If you want something more in depth, you should probably talk to someone who does this professionally. (Worst case: ask me on bsky, link below.)

Unasked Questions (Because There Is No Audience Participation)

1. What about [scenario X]?

Uh, buy something else I guess? Sorry, I'm really just making this as broad as possible. It's not gonna hit every edge case.

2. I want WiFi 6, not WiFi 7!

Cool...? There's 6/6E versions of everything. Go buy that. Or don't.

3. You didn't include [UniFi appliance X], why!?

I don't think it's good for the beginner use cases which is what I outline here.

4. I've worked with Ubiquiti gear for a long time and this is the worst, you recommend something I've used that's terrible and why would you ever

My dude, that is not a question. Furthermore, I do not care. Please go look at pictures of kittens to calm down.

5. Your links don't work, or link to a dead page, or otherwise don't resolve!

Again, that is not a question. Also, sorry - I give you the name so you can search the UI site for the thing you probably want.

6. Oh my god nothing's in stock? What gives?

Yeah man, Unifi stuff goes in and out of stock quickly. Tell me about it. (Again please don't, there is no audience participation.)

7. I want to do something else, and add this cool Unifi thing that exists, does this recommendation account for that?

Nnnnnnnope. Congrats, you know more than what this tool is really for.

This is for informational purposes only.
My day job is IT, but this isn't a specific recommendation.
I don't work for Ubiquiti, I just like their stuff.
If this was helpful, let me know over on Bluesky.
